Mark Campbell is a soul singer.Pure and simple.
Born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, the soundtrack of Marks early years was a beautiful mixture of gospel, soul, R&B, and Southern rock. He was working in the French Quarter 4 and 5 nights a week at the age of 16. After finishing high school, he immediately enrolled at the University of Bourbon Street and received his Masters Degree in "Singing All Night".
A few bands later, he found himself in Muscle Shoals, Alabama singing for a group called "Cross" and working with one of the greatest session bands in the world..."The Swampers". It is a huge understatement to say that this was an experience of a life time.
Mark headed back to NOLA and picked up where he left off. This time he fell in with Allen Toussaint and Marshall Seahorn at SeaSaint Studios. There he began his early session career singing commercials and backgrounds...BTW..the house band there was "The Meters".
In 1981, Mark headed out to Los Angeles to get busy living or...well, you know the rest. Right around the same time he started getting session work, a few new friends he'd met from the hottest band in LA, "Jack Mack And The Heart Attack" told him they were looking for a new singer/front man. He jumped at the chance. Mark has said many times since then..."If I wouldn't have joined JM, I would probably have tried to put a band together just like it".
Through the years ,there have been thousands of earmarks:
Movies.....Back To The Future (singing voice for Michael J. Fox)
Finding Graceland ( singing voice for Harvey Kietel)
Mulan
102 Dalmatians
The Money Pit
Scrooged
Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi
The Goods..(coming in August 2009)...just to name a few
He has been blessed to sing background on recordings and stage with Huey Lewis, ZZ top, Peter Wolf, Marvin Hamlish, Sheila E., Tom Jones, Jeffery Osborne, Michael Bolton, Michael McDonald, Snuffy Walden and Alf Clausen.
Mark has sung on literally hundreds of commercials since 1982 and is still going strong. He now ads Voice over artist to his resume'
