FANS SPEAK
They could be the greatest horn band of the early 1980’s out of Los Angeles, who just happened to have rocked a private party at the Wine Barn here in Wichita. They had a smash album, Cardiac Party. I had the pleasure of playing the band on radio. Jack Mack is still around today and playing all over the west coast. Recently there have been tapes rediscovered of a live performance from 1982 at Club Lingerie in L.A. and what a find this is. Coming to you in a full driving live performance in front of 900 people in a 250 seat club. This is gift from heaven.
Jack Mack was a 10 piece band with a 5 piece horn section, which is my favorite kind of band. I played this disc for my son, Spencer, to wake him one morning and it was he who said play it all loud. Spencer is a horn player himself and flipped oer the Jack Mack horns led by Bill Bergman.
I would be remiss not to mention of the excellent lead vocals of Max Carl, who would be with Dudek, Finnegan & Kruger, when they played the Cotillion. The former lead singer of the Fabulous Flippers is one of best R&B singers there ever was. Guitarist Andrew Kastner stands out surrounded by the horns.
I can list the songs one by one, but each one is a stand out and together, this is one helluva of party. This is MUST CD for anyone who likes to dance and loves good music. Many of the songs are from the first release, “Cardiac Party.” Done live is the only way to hear them. I was listening and dancing all night as the disc played, I loved the ‘80’s.
Jack Mack falls into my category of…”trust me and buy this disc”. You will not be sorry, matter of fact, you will thank me.
The band performs songs from their original CD’s as well as some of the great Soul classics. If you want to hear authentic sweet soul music played by season vets, Jack Mack is the real deal.
BIO
"Jack Mack and the Heart Attack has been LA's leading proponent of Rock'n'Soul music for a long time. They are one of my all time favorite bands.”
- Glenn Frey, the Eagles.
Jack Mack are described as "extraordinary musicians and dynamic performers”. This 10 piece Rockin' Soul band has lived three decades as one of America's most dynamic and insurmountable bands. They've circled the globe performing concerts, clubs, festivals, major corporate events and some of the world's most outrageous private affairs for nearly three decades. Their individual style of high energy R&B /Soul music, a combination of the Memphis Stax Volt sound and James Brown, has garnered an ever expanding and loyal following, and cemented their legendary reputation.
The Jack Mack entertainment brand has oozed into every facet of show biz, from their incredible live performances, studio recordings, film and TV music placements and the ever-constant shoulder rubbing with celebrities. As they inch towards their thirtieth year, Jack Mack will step up to the world stage once again with a brand new album release in 2010 and exciting re-releases and new releases from their cult classics. They are unstoppable.
Known for nearly three decades as 'Jack Mack and the Heart Attack', the band is widely known as one of the premier Soul, R&B, party bands in the world.
You can find their infamous horn section, “The Heart Attack Horns” included on countless collections and numerous award winning recording artists albums worldwide. But what the band is most known for is their solid, energetic and stellar live performances.
The All-Star line-up currently features founder/guitarist Andrew Kastner (Chaka Kahn, Natalie Cole, Barry White), sax player Bill Bergman (Bonnie Raitt, Glenn Frey), singer Mark Campbell (Huey Lewis, Jackson Browne), trumpeter Les Lovitt (Grammy winners Woody Herman, Herbie Hancock and No Doubt), bassist Tim Scott (Eric Clapton, Tower of Power), drummer Les Falconer (Keb Mo, Tony Braxton) and keyboardist Jeff Paris (Ringo Starr, Keb' Mo' and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics)
The band augments their line up with singer Tasha Taylor, daughter of the infamous soul singer, Johnny Taylor, singer Will Rize (Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz ), and the incomparable, gorgeous and talented identical twin combination of Paula and Pamela Mattioli, whose records (under the name Gypsy Queen) were produced by John Lennon's producer, Jack Douglas.
Coming up with the name of the band using a play on words between Claude Pepper's real name, (Jack Mack, plus Andrew's whimsical use of a rhyming dictionary, the name “Jack Mack and the Heart Attack” stuck, and was to be the name till 2009.)
In the early eighties, the band honed their sound with dedication, playing gigs around LA until they took up residency at The Central, the now infamous Viper Room on Sunset Blvd, every Monday night. Within a few weeks, people were forming lines around the block to get into the tiny club to see their show ( the band will soon be releasing a live recording of one of those hot nights at the Central.)
Since those early times, the band has never looked back, and have had a constant, successful ride on stage and in the studio.
A consummate live band.
Jack Mack's live appearances have been numerous and steady. They have packed bars, rock clubs, parties, corporate events, concert halls, outdoor concerts and festivals.
It's hard to put Jack Mack in only one peg hole stylistically, as they draw from so much of the past and present, and make it their own. Touches of soul classics from James Brown, Wilson Picket, Booker T & the MG's, a bit of Motown, and a whole lot of southern Memphis feel - creates the starting point to where Jack Mack likes to take it on the live scene.
“I once spoke to Jackson Browne, and surprisingly he told me that he used to come to our shows at Club Lingerie, and that we were a source of inspiration..,” says Andrew Kastner, Jack Mack guitarist.
Dance-'til-you drop, groove-'til-you sweat'…
